Japanese Super Formula competitor Kakunoshin Ohta recently completed a 104-lap test drive behind the wheel of the Meyer Shank Racing DW12 Indy car at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Mansfield, OH.
Ohta is a rising star in the racing world and has been a vital part of the Acura Meyer Shank Racing #93 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this season. He has scored a best finish of fifth in the top-level GTP class alongside his teammates Nick Yelloly, Renger van der Zande, and Alex Palou. He also recently competed in the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks, in which he was the fastest of all five Acura ARX-06 drivers.
While Ohta is new to driving in the United States, he does compete in the Japanese Super Formula Championship with Team Dandelion Racing. He currently sits third in the Super Formula title fight, with four races remaining, and has secured three Super Formula victories so far this season.
Ohta is the latest driver to make the jump from sports car racing to IndyCar. In the past, Mike Shank Racing has run notable open-wheel drivers such as Justin Wilson, Katherine Legge, and Helio Castroneves in their IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship teams.
