What's New for the 2019 Acura TLX?

The TLX, which is one of most popular models from Acura, underwent a major redesign in 2018. Therefore, no drastic mechanical or aesthetic changes have been made for 2019. One new highlight, however, is that customers choosing both the four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines can get the attractive and sporty A-Spec package. Previously, the A-Spec package was only available for the six-cylinder sedan. The smaller but still noticeable tweaks for the 2019 TLX include dark trim accents, larger exhaust tips, and a steering wheel with more cushioning. Available in the six-cylinder trim is a more responsive steering ratio, a more rigid stabilizer bar in the rear, and stiffer springs for a sportier driving feel.

Great Trims and Features Like AcuraWatch

For many Acura fans, a major highlight of the 2019 TLX is that all models come with the snazzy A-Spec package. The A-spec package, which is available even on the base sedan, gives the TLX a sportier look inside and out. This includes sharp dark chrome accent borders, a sleeker and lower front fascia, rounded LED fog lights, and LED headlights with contrasting dark accents. The A-Spec also equips the TLX with 19-inch alloy wheels and a glossy black rear spoiler. The custom look continues inside the cabin, too. The front seats are more bolstered and have a sportier look. They're finished with attractive contrast stitching.

The instrument panel is finished with brushed aluminum, and the (heated) steering wheel is thickened with extra cushioning. The base model also has a 10-way driver's seat, heated front seats, and a push-start button. Standard infotainment features include touchscreen navigation with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also a panoramic backup camera and a premier 10-speaker audio system. The V6 trims are made in two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. They are also equipped with their own special handling system. All trims get the AcuraWatch safety package. New for 2019 is a Platinum White Pearl exterior paint color.

What Type of Drivetrain is in the 2019 Acura TLX?

The 2019 TLX comes with two choices of engine. The base sedan is powered by a 2.4L, four-cylinder engine that produces 206HP at 6,800 RPM. The four-cylinder engine also generates 182 LB-FT of torque at 4,500 RPM. The inline-4 engine has a compression ratio of 11.6. It has an average combined gas mileage of 27 MPG. The other engine option is a six-cylinder engine.

The six-cylinder engine produces up to 290 HP at 6,200 RPM. The six-cylinder engine also produces up to 267 LB-FT of torque at 4,500 RPM. It has a compression ratio of 11.5. The V6 engine has a combined gas mileage of 24 MPG. Front-wheel drive is standard with the four-cylinder engine, while the six-cylinder engine is matched to an all-wheel drive transmission. The six-cylinder engines are available in either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Regardless of drivetrain, they come with a wheel angle control that enhances cornering and maneuverability.

Which Safety Features Accompany the New TLX?

The 2019 TLX comes with a range of technology-oriented and physical safety features to keep drivers safer on the road. Standard safety equipment in all trim levels of the TLX is the AcuraWatch safety package. This comprehensive package includes a collision avoidance system with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, which also allows the car to slow its speed based on its proximity to the car in front, and a forward collision detection sensor.

The TLX also has lane-keep assistance and a lane departure warning sensor. The cabin has front airbags for the driver and passenger, side curtain airbags, and knee airbags for the driver. Rounding out the TLX standard safety features are a vehicle stability assistance mechanism with traction control and an anti-locking braking system (ABS). Optional safety equipment includes front and rear parking sensors and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
