Performance EV Concept Makes Debut at Monterey Car Week

Like many automakers, Acura has pledged to create vehicles that rely on electricity instead of gas. Recently, their performance electric vehicle (EV) debuted at Monterey Car Week, one of the better-known events held throughout the year.

Why Create a Performance EV?

One of the best reasons to create an EV is that it gives customers more value for their money. Typically, EVs are easier to maintain, making them less costly. They also can go hundreds of miles without recharging or stopping at a gas station, saving money while reducing your carbon footprint.

Creating a performance EV may make it easier for consumers to adopt new technology without feeling as if they're giving up style or substance. In fact, they may actually get even more value for their money because performance vehicles often get fewer miles per gallon. After all, they create and use so much energy.

The Vehicle Will Be Manufactured in the United States

The concept vehicle will be manufactured in Ohio at one of Honda's manufacturing facilities. Honda is Acura's parent company, and the decision to manufacture it themselves means that it will be the company's first EV to be made in the country. The factory will receive $700 million as part of a renovation project to make it capable of mass-producing the new vehicle.

It's Unclear When the Vehicle Could Hit the Market

Acura merely displayed a working prototype of its newest creation, and there is no concrete timeline for releasing it to the public. It will likely take some time to complete factory renovations and other steps to manufacture and deliver the vehicle to dealers and end customers. Regardless, the hope is that the new SUV will help boost sales of Acura EVs as a whole.
